SEPTIC PUMPING

A septic system consists of two parts, the septic tank, and the drainage field. The septic tank serves as a settling reservoir for sewage waste before allowing the effluent to discharge into the disposal field.

SEPTIC INSTALLATION

Homes or establishments that are not serviced by municipal sewer requires an on-site wastewater disposal system.  A licensed installer will apply to obtain an installation permit by assessing the soil conditions and daily flow.

SEPTIC INSPECTION

Inspection of an existing septic system has become a common practice as part of the sale of a property.  It is very useful information for potential buyers. During an inspection, many aspects of the system will be verified and tested.

TERRALIFT

Terralift is a mechanism designed for soil restoration, often used to rejuvenate fatigued septic disposal fields.  When a septic field shows signs of improper drainage, it is often due to the compaction of the soil.

ABOUT US

Gallant Septic Service Was Founded

Gallant Septic Service was established in 1988 by Gilles Gallant as a septic tank cleaning company primarily servicing the Grande-Digue area and Caissie Cape cottage community.  Shortly after, we expanded the service territory to include the South East New Brunswick area.

In 1994, Gallant Septic Service has another urge to expand, the excavation division came to life specializing in the installation of septic systems for both residential and commercial clients.

New Ownership Division

New Ownership Division

2022 will bring the next chapter of Gallant Septic's saga.  Steven Collette, employed since 1997, being the main equipment operator for 15 years will venture out on his own and establish Steve's Underground Service Inc. He will continue to specialize in the installation of septic systems and maintain the same client-based focus our customers have been accustomed to.  Gilles, even though slowly starting to see a glimpse of retirement on the horizon, will for a few years, continue to work with Steven as a job coordinator to ensure a smooth transition of the business.

New Division Ownership

In 2012, the portable toilet rental division was eventually sold.  In 2014, the septic tank cleaning service division was purchased by Bruno Melanson. This division will operate under the name Gallant Septic Solutions while continuing to work alongside Gallant Septic Service.  With his 18 years of experience as an employee of Gallant Septic Service, Bruno will specialize in the service aspect of the business including vacuum truck services, pump station installations, repairs, and finally minor septic system repairs.

FAQ

Quick Answers to Common Questions

  • How often should your septic tank be pumped?
Typically, it is recommended to pump a septic tank every three to four years. The frequency is affected by several factors, but primarily by the capacity (volume) of the tank and by the daily flow, which is determined by the number of people in the household. In certain situations, a more frequent pumping may be required, while in others such as seasonal residences, they can be less frequent.
  • Which access should I uncover on my septic tank to have it pumped?
A Septic tank usually has two or three covers, depending on its manufacturer. It is preferable to have access to all covers when pumping the thank, allowing us to not only clean it out properly but also to inspect the inlet and outlet sections of the thank.
  • What is a riser?
A riser is a type of collar, often made of plastic, installed on top of your septic tank openings up to the grounds surface. Covered by a fastened lid, it allows for easy access, eliminating the need to dig. The height of the riser can be tailored to match the grade of your lawn.
  • What are the main causes of a septic system malfunction?
1- Abuse, over usage, and exceeding the daily flow it was designed for. 2- Flushing non-decomposable items such as baby wipes and feminine hygiene. 3- Excessive use of grease, harsh chemicals, or anti-bacterial products. 4- Neglect, not periodically having the septic tank pumped and effluent filter cleaned (if equipped with a filter.) 5- Trees in close proximity to the septic system (roots may infiltrate and clog pipes.) 6- Repetitive vehicle traffic over septic disposal field (creates compaction subsequently reducing soil permeability.
  • Is it okay to discharge a water softener in my septic system?
No, excessive salt brine will kill the bacteria inside the tank, reducing the decomposition of solid matter.
  • What is an effluent filter? Do I have one?
Since 2010, Department of Public Health regulations state that new septic thanks must be equipped with an effluent filter. This filter is installed at the outlet of the tank and has the purpose of restricting the flow of solids into the system's disposal field. It is important to periodically clean this filter in order to maintain the steady flow of the liquids from the tank to the disposal field. A clogged filter may eventually result in a backup, therefore it is recommended to clean it yearly. Homeowners can clean it themselves, but we do offer the service of joining our annual service program.
